The wicketkeeper was in anguish right away and the Pakistan physio rushed to the field to tend to him. While he was visibly limping even after a bit, Rizwan went on to bat and made a crucial contribution for Pakistan, acting as the pillar in the run chase with a 51-ball 71.

It is understood that Rizwan underwent an MRI scan after the game, but a follow-up scan has been recommended as a precautionary measure, according to various reports.

Rizwan is the leading run-scorer in Asia Cup 2022 with 192 runs, including two fifties in three matches. The opener also has 1521 T20I runs since the start of 2021, the most by any player in men’s T20Is.

Pakistan have been affected by multiple injuries in this Asia Cup, with lead pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi ruled out before the tournament, and the likes of Mohammad Wasim and Shahnawaz Dahani were sidelined during the event.

Pakistan take on Afghanistan on Wednesday in the Super Four phase of Asia Cup 2022.
